Welcome!

Welcome to Plural Histories of Capitalism, your go-to collaborative library to cultivate an inclusive understanding of how capitalism has shaped the world.

We understand the challenge of covering the vast expanse of knowledge alone, so we’ve crafted a technical solution to make inclusivity more accessible and effortless. The library gathers references written by diverse scholars in one place. Accessing the content on the Zotero platform is not only free but also conveniently straightforward. You don’t need an account to discover the library! It is only a click away!

Join us in building this library together. Share your favorite readings, discover new insights, and help us spread the word about groundbreaking research by women and people of color. Find on this website a step-by-step guide for Zotero, criteria for references, and more.

Fostering Inclusivity Through
Collaborative Curation

This project is intended to be a starting point for anyone, professor or student, who wishes to diversify their readings. We encourage you to help us expand the library by adding works from women and people of color. To align with the library’s primary purpose to create a library that complements works readily available elsewhere, we have defined some criteria for adding references.

A reference contribution to the Plural Histories of Capitalism library should be:

A scholarly work, notably a scientific book or a journal article; and

Authored by a woman, and/or a person of color, regardless of career stage.

This library should promote a holistic approach to understanding capitalism. Our goal is to highlight the plurality of the histories of capitalism in terms of the identity of the researchers as well as the variety of approaches. As such we warmly encourage the inclusion of work from historians of all sub disciplines including, but not limited to, economic, social, political, cultural and environmental history.

Given that capitalism is a global phenomenon, it is our objective to provide a platform for research published in all languages. We acknowledge that language itself can introduce subtle biases within academia, often favoring English-language publications. To counteract this, our library is organized into distinct collections, each dedicated to a specific language.

How do I get started?

Here is how you can make the best out of this library. It’s simple!
